LEADERSHIP MINOR CAPSTONE

This capstone event was prepared, implemented and designed by Haley Vinborg, Jacob Haas, Connor Robinson and myself.

LEADING UP TO THE EVENT

To start, we wanted to have the solidified date for our tournament organized with the Rec department. The next part our plan was for the marketing of the tournament. Haley, had made the poster (pictured) and this was our main media we used to market. We had posters around the school as well as a digital copy spreading around the campus. Following the marketing of the tournament we had to set up a way for our participants to sign up and pay the fee for their team. The next phase of the plan that worked out great was to get donations from local businesses to help sponsor our food for the event. We were very blessed to have received a gift card that covered most of the food we provided. The day before the tournament we had put together the bracket. We were so proud to have over 20 teams participating!

DAY OF EVENT

The day of the tournament was a blast, it went by so fast. Nearly an hour before the tournament started we had to get the registration tables setup and make sure the IM Gym was empty for us. One of our main challenges was team rotation getting on the court. It proved to be a general problem until we were in the top ten teams. The tournament ended with a freshman team playing a team of fifth years, a classic old verse new game that came down to the wire in over time.

RESULTS

In the end the capstone was very rewarding. We as a team successfully organized, marketed, and implemented an event that has never been done before at JCU raising over a $1,000 for a great program at Fatima Family Center.
